Greatly saddened to learn (the Wikipedes link a French-language obituary,
he had lived in France for decades) of the death of J.R.R.T.'s literary
executor and last surviving son,a faithful custodian of a peerless legacy.

I got a letter from him once applauding my denunciation of the inferior
Tim Kirk Ballantine calendar that replaced the ones with his father's own
art.

I've been chuckling for years about the time that Terry d.F. mentioned
that he had run the film projector at a Star Trek convention, noting
that, yes, that *is* the nerdiest thing ever. I think he's been
exceeded.

I mean, that's pretty cool and all, but ... NERD.

I posted that slightly over 14 years ago. The actual event was over 40
years ago. We're old.

You're my current hero for bringing up ST in the middle of a thread
about Tolkien. I trust the reasons are obvious.

I received my letter in 1974 (I had sent a letter to Ballantine Books,
which published the calendars, which somehow made it to Rayner Unwin,
chairman of Tolkien's UK publisher, who sent a copy to Christopher Tolkien,
who sent me a reply. He dated his letter 1973 in error though it referred
to a letter I dated 1974...not my most-misdated letter received,as I
got a letter from Hamilton Fish the third (1888-1991) in January 1990
that was dated 2990).

Feh,Tolkien fans are elite,ST fans are fools, and those who are both
are mixed up.
