I'd never heard of it before now, but it sounds interesting. I've been
fascinated by the Kalevala since I first heard of it (in the late '70s)
and that's almost as long as I've known about Tolkien (since the early
'70s). Yes, I'll probably read it.

At $20.99 on Kindle and no alternatives, I think I'll pass, at least
for now.

Even eBooks of the most recent titles, prepared by well-known
publishers, tend to have at least a few glitches. Apparently, it isn't
enough to have the book in a computer file, ready for printing; it
must be converted to eBook format. Proofreading, it appears, is either
impossible, optional, inadequate, or too expensive to contemplate.
$20.99 is /far/ too high for an eBook (IMHO, of course)..

eBooks based on older books tend to add OCR errors to their list of
woes (and clear evidence of a lack of proofreading). The graphic novel
I tried showed that this is not really a good idea, although whether
that is from a lack of proper tools for preparing the graphic novel or
reflects a conceptual failure of either the format or the people who
prepared the graphic novel to the Kindle is unknown.

Are /all/ Kindle books in the UK priced at £10.99? Does the VAT have
anything to do with this? Still, at least in the UK there is an
option, and it's only £1 more, as shown by the link above.

I will put it on my list, and check it once a year, to see if it
becomes available at a more reasonable price in some format.

When I said I'd probably read it I didn't realize it was going to be in
electronic format only. Unless it become available in hardback I guess
I'll pass, too.

There will be a hardcover:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Story-Kullervo-J-Tolkien/dp/0008131368
In the UK.

But not in the USA.

http://www.amazon.com/Story-Kullervo-J-R-Tolkien-ebook/dp/B00S5LDX3C/ref=sr_1_sc_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1434470210&sr=8-2-spell&keywords=kullarvo&pebp=1434470206553&perid=1TRZGR48MHMX1KKG5XP2

Of course, it will (I am sure) be out in hard cover in the USA ...
eventually.

And, ironically, for a hardcover book, $23 (or $32 full price)
wouldn't be that bad a price.

If it is set up like HOME, hardcover might be better, since, in HOME,
I usually have to wrestle with two or three bookmarks to keep the
scholarly apparati organized, something it would be /very/ hard to do
in an eBook. Well, unless they actually provided endless links between
the various parts.

It looks like the hardcover will be available from Amazon soon:

But AIUI, it _is_ possible to order from Amazon UK and have them
ship to the US, though I haven't done so myself.
