Wherever I have been, it's nice to be back.

And yet the long leagues of Eriador, had I must needs have
trodden them, would have been a small part of my wanderings
since last I dropped by here. For mine has been a journey,
not of sight and sound, but of Mind.

Since I last parted I have forgotten much that I thought I knew,
and learned again little of what I have forgotten. I can see
many things far off, but many things that are close at hand
I cannot see... so someone pls tell me how it fares with
this forum.

Usenet is in a general decline, and my heart forebodes that
soon it will pass away for ever. Yet there remain a few
gleaming lights still visible amongst the gathering darkness.
Surely this n/g is one of them.

Usenet has been declining for at least a decade now.

It has been "replaced", if that is the word, by about 100 gazillion
"forums", each and every one of which requires its own registration,
some of which go inactive after a while. Still, those related to
specific products are sometimes helpful.

The tolkien groups have occasional sparks of activity, not necessarily
on topic (in which department I am a major offender), but what mostly
keeps them going are the autoposts of/regarding the FAQs and Troel's
notifications of a new "Tolkien Transactions", if I remember the title
correctly. Also, aft at least was being spammed regularly, but not
lately.
